The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas

The book seems promising in the beginning, but then it falls apart with its slow pace and rather unconvincing plot (disguising a girl as a boy in the all-boy school with only short hair and boy dress? And speaking of hiding from enemy’s eyes? I don’t think so!)

The book is told from two different POV’s: that of the mage girl and of the prince boy. However, what makes it difficult to read is there is no clear separation when the view switches from one character to another, and so I feel I need to set back and refocus every time the view changes.

The attraction between the two leading characters is rather annoying. I feel it’s too much too soon. Maybe as a historical romance author, the writer feels it natural to add the element at the beginning of the story, but then it feels forceful, if not fake.

DNF – after the disguise.
