I feel as the book has been cut short to trilogy, it is also
forced to complex and un-complex the plots and characters more erratically than
it had been planned.
Somewhat I also feel it affected the richness of the
before stories – the ongoing bond between Raffe and Penryn becomes rush and
unnatural. Hmm, the first two books have been so good, so good that we had
expected much more than one single book (instead of more!) could deliver?
Still, I feel rather dissatisfied with how the book ends … the central roles from
the new players have been too dominant as they shadow our dear characters.
I feel strange towards the decision of Raffe in the end – as
he has always insisted on salvaging his race. And now? But then, with the trade
he deals with the pit lord (rather predictable eh?), there is no much choice
for him to go on. And even with Raffe’s final decision, how could the love between
a mortal girl and an angel (let alone archangel) lasts? Sooner or later, a
mortal has to leave the world … I only thought there would be different way
where the mortal is not that mortal in the end.
I feel most sorry for one villain and the story behind his ‘ugliness’.
For some reason, it has the most impact in my mind after reading, and I found I
keep wondering and wishing situations could have been kinder for him.
